State of Emergency Declared Sunday 2/22/26

A state of emergency has been issued for the state of Delaware at 12 pm on Sunday, February 22, 2026 to allow for the mobilization of statewide resources to prepare for the impending winter storm. Residents should also prepare for the issuance of state mandated driving restrictions to keep motorists and emergency responders safe by minimizing nonessential travel during periods of severe weather and perilous road conditions. 

The City of New Castle offices will be closed on Monday, 2/23/2026.  Only essential emergency personnel should report to work.  As Public Works will be anticipated to be working to clear the snow, solid waste pickup will be delayed for the week. Yard waste pickup is canceled for the week of 2/23-2/27.  Solid waste pickup originally scheduled for Monday, February 23rd, 2026 will be collected on Tuesday, February 24th, 2026. Solid waste pickup originally scheduled for Tuesday, February 24th, 2026 will be collected on Wednesday, February 25th, 2026. Recycling will remain as scheduled.  Any updates to this schedule will be provided as the storm progresses. 

The Planning Commission Meeting scheduled for Monday, 2/23 will be postponed.  Please check the City website for updates.
